PRODUCTS AND ADVICE
Our Sourcing Philosophy
At Millstone, we pride ourselves on sourcing single-origin spices, herbs and salts directly from small, independent farms and mines across the globe. All of our spices and herbs are organically grown. Our spices and herbs are hand-harvested, dried, and transported whole to ensure peak freshness and flavour. We work to a three month 'seed to shelf', that means your spices, herbs and salts were freshly harvested no more than three months by the time they arrive on shelves. They are naturally free from GMOs, irradiation, gluten, allergens, artificial additives, colourings, anti-caking agents, and fillers. Millstone stands for transparency, ethical sourcing, and a shared journey toward sustainability and exceptional quality.
What is Single Origin?
Choosing single-origin spices means your product comes directly from one source which ensures our farmers are fairly compensated for their dedication. It also means we can guarantee a seed to shelf life of approximately three months, which means a more potent end product which is better for our health and our taste buds.
What is 'Seed to Shelf'?
Seed to shelf is our way of ensuring you get the most potent spices, herbs and salts available. But what is seed to shelf? As the name suggests, it’s the time it takes for our products to be harvested and to land on the store shelves, or in your home. Our seed to shelf is just three months. We can achieve this as a result of our direct contact and healthy relationships with smallholder farmers and an efficient logistics network. The vast majority of alternatives you can buy have a seed to shelf of up to two years! But what is the problem here? To put it bluntly, when spices and herbs have been sitting in storage for up to two years, they have zero antioxidant, polyphenol and nutrient availability, in other words; zero health benefits. Not to mention a reduced phytochemical count, which equates to compromised taste and health benefits. With Millstone’s seed to shelf of just three months, and our three barriers of packaging protection, we are able to preserve the health benefits and the potent flavours of our products for a long time.
Are your products organic?
Our products are organic unless otherwise stated. Our current products originate from Morocco, and as such are organic certified with RIAM / SPG. Where new products and growing locations are chosen, we will strive to grow organically, and if this is not available we will seek to introduce organic farming practices where possible.
Millstone was launched as a reaction against foods that were impure, foods labeled with bulking agents, anti-caking agents and generally processed in such a way that they are detrimental to our health. There is simply no room for this at Millstone. Through our communication channels, we endeavor to show you our farming practices, processing, packing and logistics. We would not create foods that we would not consume ourselves, it’s that simple.
The term ‘organic’ has been overused and unfounded in just about every food category over the years, and it is our belief that ‘organic’ should not be a unique selling point, it should be the foundation of every food business, along with ‘sustainable’ and ‘ethical’. We also understand constraints on small businesses and farmers, sometimes it’s just not possible to be organic, but it's something to strive for, and it is that journey we all must take, and we welcome you with us as we journey into taste.
Is your packaging sustainable?
Our packaging is 100% sustainable, recyclable and reusable, it is also functional beyond just holding products. A lot of thought has gone into our packaging design, and it was guided by our four principles, of Taste, Health, Design and Culture.
All Millstone products are bioactive, which is to say, when consumed, they have a positive effect on your mind, body and wellbeing. Our spices, herbs and salts are loaded with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, polyphenols and can be considered as part of your thirty a day and even five a day. We are dedicated to making sure you get these products as fresh and as potent as the day we pack them. That is why we have gone to great lengths to ensure none of the good stuff is lost.
Our sealing tins push air out of the tin, which protects the flavour compounds from spoiling. The inside bag is made from Natureflex material, which is 100% plant based and after use the whole bag can be added to your home compost bin or even simply buried in your garden, where it will break down within 6 weeks and return back to nature. The bag and tin combined will ensure Taste and Health properties are preserved for a long time.
We encourage all of our customers to buy refill bags, these are the same Natureflex bags that come with the tin. Simply take out the empty bag, bury / compost it and add your refill bag to the tin. By doing so you save money, save the planet and take part in a global movement of change.
From a Design perspective the Millstone packaging was designed to look good and to endure. Millstone packaging will add a touch of class and sleekness to your kitchen or pantry and if reused will start to tell its own stories, much like the million year old pebble we found on the beach that time which inspired our packaging.

ABOUT MILLSTONE
Who are Millstone?
Millstone was founded in 2023 by myself, Kane Casey.
Millstone was launched as a reaction to the low quality spices, herbs and salts available at the time. Up and down the scale of different brands, there seemed to be a lack of conviction and trust in regards to quality and provenance. From bulking agents in spices and salts to murky stories of farming practices, I did not have faith that my health and taste buds were being considered top priority by these brands. The seeds were sown to launch Millstone.
A month-long adventure in Morocco and a chance meeting with farmers and growers deep within the Atlas Mountains was all the inspiration needed to choose Morocco as our first growing region. We now enjoy regular visits to Morocco, building relationships and always making new ones along the way. We will be sharing our adventures on our socials so please do check them out.
